Claire Harris our Councillor for Markfield, Stanton Under Bardon and Field Head - Reports:
Dear Resident, As your local councillor, I wanted to update you on what I've been working on since being elected. I believe in being a hands-on, visible councillor for Markfield, Stanton under Bardon and Field Head — helping with whatever matters to residents, whether it falls to the Borough or County Council.
Since being elected, I have:
•Resolved practical problems for residents — including pest control, hedge cutting and tenancy disputes on council properties, and I always work to help local residents into available social housing.
•Fixed a long-standing flooding issue that previous representatives were not prepared to take on.
•Fought for better bus services in our area and help secure alternative provision for residents during periods of disruption to transport infrastructure.
•Scrutinised local planning applications, objecting and speaking at planning committee where proposals were not right for our villages. I'm not against new housing, but I believe infrastructure must be in place before it is accepted.
•Secured road resurfacing for some of our worst affected roads and continue to press for the repair of numerous potholes across the ward.
•Built a strong working relationship with the local surgery to explore options for extending the premises and improving services for patients.
•Introduced an amendment on construction traffic management, helping to ensure building works are carried out with far less disruption to local people.
•Continued to tackle speeding and inconsiderate parking concerns raised by residents across the ward.
•Worked closely to deliver a pilot scheme addressing roadside parking issues on the route to South Charnwood High School.
•Kept residents informed and supported local events, helping to promote and champion what makes our community special. This is just a snapshot — there is a lot more I've been involved in on residents' behalf, and I'm always happy to talk through anything specific to your street or situation. An important update: Local Plan Consultation The Regulation 19 consultation on the draft Local Plan is now open, and this matters for the future of our villages. I would strongly encourage every resident to review the draft plan and consider its soundness, and to submit comments if you have concerns. There is more I want to do for Markfield, Stanton under Bardon and Field Head, and I hope I can count on your support to continue this work.
